The definition of leadership can be simple, often described as "the person who guides or directs a group". The concept of leadership however is much more complex. It is a subject that generates constant attention, and has been written about, presented, and discussed ad nauseam (I searched "leadership" on Google and received 81.6 million results). At times, all of this can be a bit overwhelming, but, I believe that we are all leaders. Each of us plays the role of leader in our daily lives, whether it's raising children, walking a dog, managing a team at work, organizing dinner with a group of friends, or serving as President of the United States (well, maybe not so much this one). We all exemplify the characteristics of a leader and I don't think its importance can be communicated enough. The Central Ohio Chapter of HFMA has invited many leaders from around the local and national communities to speak this year. We had a great example in November when Greg Adams, the HFMA National Chair, spoke to our chapter. We have invited a number of local and national leaders to address the chapter at the "MAP, MAC and RAC" event in February and the "Around the Industry" event in late March. Each of these individuals promotes qualities of leadership and we are proud that the Central Ohio Chapter is able to attract this caliber of speakers to address our members. We are also very excited to have a great group of current and future leaders attending the HFMA Leadership Training Conference this spring as we begin to prepare for the upcoming 2012-2013 chapter year. I would like to encourage each of you to join this committed group of leaders, share your ideas, and get involved in the Central Ohio Chapter of HFMA! Sincerely, Chris Peters |
